Tai Chi is a martial art that utilizes gentle, flowing movements to enhance health in the mind and body.
In this introductory 5-class series, we will explore some gentle Qi Gong and Tai Chi movements including the 8 Form. The 8 Form is a modified, shorter version of the 24 Yang Short Form. Emphasis will be placed on breathing coordinated with the movements. This is known to reduce blood pressure, anxiety and stress and helps us to activate our parasympathetic nervous system which brings healing to both body and mind. Studies by the Mayo Clinic also show significant improvement in balance, functional mobility (preventing falls), cognitive and brain function as well as improved quality of life.
Wear loose comfortable clothing and bring your Tai Chi shoes if you have them; you can practice in bare feet but the shoes are designed to help your feet move properly on the floor.
