Designed For Joy is a nonprofit organization in Raleigh that was started by my former neighbor and her friend. They started this mission in their homes and worked tirelessly to grow their giving circle through grass-roots campaigns before opening a warehouse and shop in downtown Raleigh six years ago. Designed For Joy provides transitional work for women in crisis from all circumstances before launching them out into workplaces again. Their space is a haven of diversity, belonging and support for women throughout the Triangle and beyond as they partner with organizations globally to make, buy and sell goods from artisans around the world. In the season and spirit of giving, I decided to share their story. Their work is centered on giving back each and every day, and anytime I see them I’m reminded how important it is to spend time helping others.
“When we work for the greater good of all, unity is created and shared joy plants seeds that disperse. Organizations built to help others spark movements, and positive movements grow.”– Heather Blanchard
One of the most beautiful things about Designed For Joy lies in the environment they’ve created in their workshop through their mission and values. Values that we can all embrace and live by!
Our Values: We aim to have a C.H.A.I.R. available for every woman in crisis who needs a safe and dignified job. Our values are:
- Communication – Active listening. Clear & concise direction. Complete transparency.
- Hospitality – Commitment to personal satisfaction among all served.
- Advocacy – Passionate voice for the unheard. Creating social awareness and change.
- Inclusive – Recognize human uniqueness and variability and design within it.
- Respect – Affirm belonging. Lead with truth, honesty, empathy, and grace.
In a world that’s all too often colored by division, Designed For Joy is all about unity, respect and appreciation of everyone’s unique abilities and differences. As we count our many blessings this season, it’s the perfect time to ponder where and how we want to give. And if you’re already dedicated to a cause, spread the word to everyone! When we work with others to help those in need, hope, cheer and gratitude grow. Connections are made, Hearts are touched and lives are changed.
XOXO, Heather
