My husband was watching Rocky again a few weeks ago, and I realized why movies that celebrate the triumph of the underdog are so hard to resist – and can certainly be watched again and again. We love triumph, don’t we? We love the joy and exultation of victory – the hard-earned win after months or years of dedicated work.
And everyone deserves a win.
What makes something triumphant is hard to pin down as it’s different for all of us. It can be anything that challenges you to move forward, thrills you, inspires you, awes you or pushes you to be better. And what inspires you can change from day-to-day. One morning, it’s someone’s win, the next it’s a seemingly impossible feat of strength or recovery. Although the journey to triumph varies constantly, it always has the ability to make us feel hopeful, cheerful, encouraged, and even excited.
Triumphant stories in books or movies have the power to brighten our spirits, broaden our perspectives, and remind us how beautiful humans are. They are works that speak to the very best in our hearts and magnify the purpose of life. Triumph in life is even more powerful – whether it touches someone we love or or someone we hear about because it’s proof that nothing is impossible or out of reach.
I found this lovely quote on triumph by contributor Soniya Hinduja on movieweb.com: “Highly inspirational stories go beyond mere entertainment. They shape our mindset and behaviors in small, but significant ways. From sweet parables on life to profound characters with impactful victories, these stories ignite our curiosity and kindle our sense of wonder. They remind us that being open to even tiny, fleeting moments of magic and awe can nourish the soul and make our journey better. Above all, inspirational stories serve to remind us that our lives matter. That each moment is precious and each deed has a purpose.”
So if you’re in need of more inspiration, go watch Rocky, Rudy, Good Will Hunting or It’s A Wonderful Life again. If you’re currently facing a challenge, seek out a book, article or podcast on triumph. Perhaps it’s all the inspiration you need to keep plugging forward with confidence, knowing there’s joy to be had at the end of each hill you climb. And remember…the smell of sweet success will come again and again as you journey through life.
“Strength does not come from physical capacity, it comes from an indomitable will.” – Mahatma Gandhi
