Awakening With Spring: A Yoga Practice For Renewal

Mar 25, 2025 by Cary Yoga

“The very heart of yoga is Abhyasa, steady practice, and spring reminds us that with patience and persistence, all things bloom in time.”

— Inspired by the Yoga Sutras

The Spring Equinox on March 20th marks the first day of Spring. As the world awakens from winter’s slumber, spring invites us to refresh, renew, and realign. Just as nature begins to bloom, we too can embrace this season of transformation through our yoga practice. From poses to awaken the body, to breath practices to awaken Prana, to meditations that ground us to the present moment, the greater Practice of Yoga is here to support our journey.

Spring is a time of movement, energy, and growth. After months of stillness, connecting into the Yin energy in the body and mind, we can welcome the warmth and vitality of the Yang sun energy by incorporating back bending postures like Cobra (Bhujangasana) and Camel (Ustrasana). These poses expand the chest, encouraging deeper breaths and a sense of openness.

To shake off winter stagnation, dynamic flows like Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) can invigorate the body, stimulating circulation and boosting energy levels. Twists, such as Revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana), help detoxify, making space for fresh intentions.

Spring also symbolizes balance—day and night are nearly equal in length. Grounding poses like Tree (Vriksasana) and Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) cultivate stability as we step into the changing season.

As we move, breathe, and align with nature’s rhythms, let this be a time of renewal. Set an intention for growth, shed the old, and welcome new possibilities with each mindful breath.

This spring, let your yoga practice blossom—just like the world around you. We at Cary Yoga Collective are grateful to hold space for you in the ways your Practice continues to evolve and awaken through the shifts of life.

Namaste, Bridget
